Mónica Arguedas
She is Mónica Arguedas, she is one of Parsons alumni who came back to her country to follow up her dream, to be a successful fashion designer in her own country and to eliminate the stigma that in El Salvador, fashion design is not profitable. She was the first designer who succeed on creating the first Fashion Boutique specialized in ready to wear clothing led by a Salvadoran Designer.
I attended to her first collection at SVFW in 2011, the mood of the collection was obviously the Holiday season, because everybody wants to look good on Holiday parties, Mónica delivered. In this collection you can see the predominance of black, white, earth tones and the color accent was this red-ish orange, her selection of materials were really amazing, she mixed up chiffon, brocades, and also sequins. Her most notable technique is the use of draping.
Also for that year she presented a collection of black bikinis presented at the Black Friday event, the very next day of her presentation at the SVFW, she reinterpreted the well known black bikini in so many ways, she presented, bikinis, "triquinis", one piece swimsuits.
For her next collection presented at the next edition of SVFW in 2012, the woman of her collection decided to start taking risks when dressing herself to an event, now we can see more transparencies, ruffles, beading and her most daring bikinis. Again Mónica decided to use a basic palette of Black and Whites as the base of that palette and her color accents were neon yellow, turquoise and this kind of coral red, which is perfect for the Holiday season. In this collection also she decided to use prints, in a very moderate way, but just to give personality to the collection.
And now for her third year in a row at SVFW the woman she was presenting, was a more mature woman, who thinks really carefully what she is going to wear, I can really tell you this is one of the most complete collections she has ever presented, now we can see jumpsuits, short dresses, long gowns. And like Abdías, this collection was a party, but this party was full of textures, cuts and materials. I had the opportunity to be backstage and I could feel each piece, each texture, the snake skirt with a 3d texture, all those sequins, and the lace pieces were really good. I had also the opportunity to help her to style each look with Raquel Cañas from Our Favorite Style and with Josue Quijano who was the designer of the jewelry she presented at the event. She was true to herself to present again Ruffles, you can tell that's her statement technique; her winning color palette of black white and red, in addition of green, and again moderate prints. I hope she will be doing great with her store and with her next collections. Stay tuned for my next post at Neorococó...
