London Collections: Day 1

Yup, it's just the beginning of the second week of this new year and we start today London Collections, which is the fashion week for menswear, today we are going to review the best ones of this day.

First, we have Topman, which is one of the best collection from day 1, the way he played with black and navy in different surfaces and textures, red and baby blue as pop of color, his knitwear and tailoring (which menswear is all about) were spectacular! It seems like designers are waking up from a big brain strike... In this time when we are experiencing the worst winter in decades, coats become larger, and knitwear becomes chunky, sartorial elegance mixed with utility is the big key for Topman, and kudos to them!

Now, atoms are the beginning of life for every single living being in the world, and this inspired Christopher Kane to make this collection atom related, those futuristic suits, with the (again) knit sweaters are a really spot on, and those prints, resembling the parts of the atoms are amazing, again, giving life to the fashion world!, He plays also with  blue, greens and orange, his tailoring is impeccable, and those 60s turtleneck sweaters inside  those suits are something to take into consideration for next winter, or even this one!, by far, the best collection from yesterday

Now to finish this post from day one, I want to talk about Jonathan Saunders, another great British designer. If Kane and Topman decided to use tailoring as the key factor for this season, Jonathan Saunders uses the cardigan, pants with drawstrings inside the waist and the bomber jacket as his key factor, and also he plays with paisley prints, and also harlequin checks. And while the other two they had a cohesive color palette, Saunders was an explosion of colours, we have even metalics in the final look with that chunky knit scarf in Terracotta and Turquoise, but you can see that the cohesive part of it were the olive tones, and again, red and blue all over the collection, really amazing.

And my conclusions so far are:
  • Good bye skinny pants!
  • Welcome to the 60s
  • Get your grandma or yourself to make a chunky sweater
  • And wear primary colors!
